I had to see a newborn baby once, who was crying excessively.
It transpired that he was born after a rather prolonged delivery and his mother was currently undergoing additional stress as well currently, they had moved house only a week ago.
The baby was sucking voraciously at its mother's breast, and after a minute or so, would let go of the breast and cry loudly.
This is characteristic behaviour of babies who aren't getting enough milk from the breast.
I squeezed the breast and found that not a drop of milk came out.
We put the baby on formula milk for a couple of days, while I started the following herbs for this mother:
Galega officianlis
Asparagus racemosa
Withania somnifera
in a potentised form from a Homeopathy pharmacy, so that they would act quickly.
These herbs are also available in an Ayurveda pharmacy.
I also told the mother to massage her breasts thrice a day with a little warm Sesame oil.
Her milk flow started the same evening and by the end of 3 days, she was able to breast feed her baby exclusively and satisfactorily.
